I think your project is developing quite nicely, I have a few comments, but before we get into that I found an image while doing a bit of research for precedents for Jaclyn. If you would be so kind to visit www.pressleyassociates.com, specifically their images for the "Worcester medical center", I know their model section is not like yours, but some of those images do relate. Let me know what you think?
A bit on the Architecture and planning:
"K" area: You indicate this is the entry for cars and services, however it does not appear to be either wide enough for a two-way drive aisle or staging area for services. The neighboring building appears to create a challenge with this.
"J" area: I don't know why a few have position functions that could create noise adjacent to the room areas of the neighboring building. I am not sure what kind of activities you are envisioning, but if there is shouting or loud noise it will impact the comfort level of your neighbors. I think in this case area "F" would be more Zen and a nice buffer between the solidity of the brick wall.
"C" area: I wonder why is bisecting the linear circulation of the Amorphous tent. The way I see myself walking this volume is from the north west end of the tent culminating on the East "Boston Eye", however "C" appears to have glazing divisions or so. Maybe "C" invades this space with a bubble that only occupies 30% of the gut.
My last suggestion is to do some images that become more Architectural, you know walls, doors, floor, things that I could touch.. Good luck man.
As respond to (A bit on Architecture and planning)
K, Area is indicated in details in the plans in previous post from the intensive. and the neighbors doesnt create any challange with that.
Also in thoes plans i had the architectural plans you asking for. The way i design buil
Arae F CANNOT replace J. for site relation reasons. But YOU ABSOLUTELY RIGHT i greatly appreciate your comment about the outdoor activity area next the neigbors and i agree with you, thats why i will RE-concider that. I will certainly change that to better. Area C let Public enjoy the bubble with teh students, through an enclosed space that i am developing, Not invading, but sharing. there is a big diffrence between thoes words. When you say C invading the space that means it takes advantage of space A and D. while its not the case, it helps public share the space and enjoy the bubble poark experience, this way this would enrich both the public and teh students experience and the way they belong to the space. I am here tring to create architecture that brings people together.
My building pieces works together towardds integrity they dont compete with each other and thats clear in teh geometry of the site plan. in the praise of silence, i dont like to describe the geometry. as what ever i can say cant be so effective as my site plan energetic grey arrows tell.
My site plan design is mainly about the experience. plz see teh little arrows, feel it and out yourself, as if you following them.
I wish i were an arrow in this site plan.
I designed this site plan to offer students, public and staff as they follow the route an alternating series of contrasts: large and small, open and closed, demanding and undemanding, focused on the park-Like studio idea, green every where to simply observe, will be alternated with interpretive panels of text to read what kind of trees are these as we experienced together at the Gynzime building, but with much higher standards of details and more involving. As I show in my new hand sketch
About the example you refer to of Worester medical center, Its a nice trial from these architects Pressley. However their standards of distributing the rock work and greens is poor. We have much more higher standards at our office, In all our Aquariums, you hardley see the doors and walls you asking me to show you so you touch and feel.
As I said before Architecture is not the issue, Architecture is not about doors and walls its about space, experience and organizing. our friends, carpenters and contractors take cares of doors and walls.
In this Building its the park-like studio experience so you get soo involved in the experience to the extend that you forget the architecture. I use the architecture as a servant not an end in it self.
In this building I have found, that the subject of nature, and my focus on creating rewarding experiences for my students and staff, using architecture as a servant rather than an end in itself, is also consistently rewarding to all involved and is the ultimate sustainbility one can ever get.
Thanks for your comments and input I look for more, and i will comment more and more on yours lets keep this going.....
I’m not sure what you would like me to comment on. The diagrams are still that: diagrams. And without comparing one for one they seem to be the same as at the end of the intensive. As such they are still valid. It is time now to clean them up: how does your building meet the existing site: none of your sections show a relationship to the site (Boylston Street 0.00, train tracks -20’, neighboring building, retaining wall, bridge at Mass Ave), the plan is difficult to understand; is it your intention to crate these odd triangular left over areas between your building, entry plaza and the existing building? Your building is almost touching the existing building, but exposes the fire wall. Is this an oversight or do you want to feature in some fashion the existing wall? If so, what purpose would this have? How would you emphasize it? You are showing many arrows on your site plan. What do they symbolize? Why do they ultimately leave to the service entry of the building? How do you propose to accommodate the 40 parking spaces? Your plan doesn’t show any walls, doors windows on the building to the south of the bubble. It is impossible for me to give you any substantial input without seeing how you propose to enclose your programmatic layout, how you propose to lead visitors into the exhibit and discussion areas, what kind of spaces you would provide for the students to study, learn, socialize and relax?
Frist, thank you for your comments on my research and precedents. I feel an affinity with ando in that the method of architectural study he chose was to bypass formal education and rather read, study and most importantly visit buildings. I learn so much from the experience of being in a building, which is why my comment is asking for vignettes or model views/sections showing your beautiful idea of a graphic rock garden. I want to know how it will feel to be in the various spaces upon the site. I know time is of essence so take all comments aside and only pursue that which you were planning to work on initially. Stay healthy out there in your B cities. :) I too have aquired some bug/cold. It is fine though do what you can every night and day and then the rest is...
